Car or Motorbike?

Cars under 10 years of age from within the EC

The vehicle will require a Vehicle Certification Agency  (VCA) approval certificate. It will also require a MOT roadworthiness test if more than 3 years old.

Vehicle compliance requirements

Vehicles from within the EC are usually left-hand drive and have a rear fog light on the UK near-side. It will be necessary to re-wire or fit a replacement fog-light to the UK off-side unless the vehicle has twin rear fog lights.

Vehicles with headlights that “kick up” to the right will need replacements fitted unless the headlights are “flat beam” or “hot spot”.  Some vehicles have headlights that can be switched or modified to be UK compliant.

European vehicles usually have speedometers indicating KMH only.  It is necessary to have a speedometer face or replacement speedometer indicating both MPH and KMH fitted, with MPH predominant.

We are able to complete all the above modifications and the MOT roadworthiness test.

Some vehicles are suitable for beam deflectors which are acceptable for MOT purposes, but we recommend that they are not used as a permanent solution.

European vehicles usually have speedometers indicating KMH only.  It is not currently a MOT requirement to have a speedometer indicating MPH, but a KMH speedometer only contravenes “construction and use” regulations and could be an issue in the event of an incident, it is also recommended that a vehicle is able to indicate MPH for safety and speed compliance purposes.

We are able to complete all the above modifications and the MOT roadworthiness test.

Left hand drive cars from outside the EC under 10 years of age

The vehicle will require an IVA  (Individual Vehicle Approval) test of compliance.  It will also require a MOT roadworthiness test certificate if it is over 3 years old.

Vehicle compliance requirements

Cars from outside the EC usually have a speedometer indicating KMH only  (except USA) and it is a requirement that MPH (Miles Per Hour) is indicated as a permanent display.  We usually fit a replacement speedometer face There are some vehicles that are not suitable for replacement so it is necessary to fit a complete speedometer cluster.  As an alternative we have the option to fit a “heads up” unit that displays the speed as MPH on to the windscreen. Our “heads up” displays are acceptable to the government testing authority (DVSA).

Some vehicles are fitted with a permanent digital display which is acceptable if converted to MPH.

Left-hand drive vehicles usually have a rear fog light on the UK near-side. It will be necessary to re-wire or fit a replacement fog-light to the UK off-side unless the vehicle has twin rear fog lights.

Vehicles with headlights that “kick up” to the right will need replacements fitted unless the headlights are “flat beam” or “hot spot”.

Some vehicles have headlights that are adjustable or switchable to make them both left and right hand drive compliant.

It is usually necessary to remove bull bars and tow-bars for the IVA compliance test as they do not have the necessary UK approval certification indicated with an  “E” mark.

We are able to complete all the above modifications and the MOT roadworthiness test.
